Jackson Hole symposium takes the center stage today

Today's expected range for the Canadian Dollar against the major currencies:
US Dollar 1.2900-1.3000

The US Dollar index is marginally weaker this morning and stocks are set for a decline on the opening as the markets get set for the only thing that really matters today and that is the speech by Fed Chair Powell to the Jackson Hole Symposium of Central Bankers. I think the market is expecting that he will confirm the bank's position that interest rates will continue to rise at an aggressive rate for at least the remainder of this year in an effort to tackle persistent inflation, such a statement will again push stocks lower and give a boost to the US Dollar. If he was to change it up and say that the Fed will reduce the pace of interest rate hikes then I think the market would go nuts and Stocks would jump and the Dollar would get hit hard, either way I think you will see some enhanced volatility in all markets surrounding his speech.
The Canadian Dollar is hanging in at the 1.2930 (0.7722) level ahead of the 10:00 am speech time. It is also steady against the other currencies but will almost certainly move once the speech begins and is published for news outlets to review.
Ahead of the big speech the markets get some secondary US inflation data, Personal Income and Spending reports, markets will be watching these reports to get an idea of the state of the US economy ahead of the speech.
